Teeny Tiny Apricot Jacket

Teeny Tiny AJ Posted by Picasa

I love this design!

Apricot Jacket - Rebecca magazine #27 - but this is a teeny tiny version to fit a 1.5 year old. How cute is that!

Yarn : Cleckheaton Cotton Soft 8ply
Content : 100% cotton (it's as soft as silk)
Meterage : 105 metres per 50g
Quantity : 4 balls
Neeldes : 4mm
Gauge : 20sts & 24rows to 10cm over stst

I'm well into the sleeves of my apricot jacket and should complete it by Friday as planned, but in the meantime, I've knitted up TTAJ for my special little princess.

The photos haven't come out too well, but not to worry - I just had to post before I hand it over on Friday. It's presently pinned at the front, but will find buttons tomorrow and I'm sure it will be worn the very next day.

I ain't changin' it!

Okay - just noticed I've stuffed up the back of TTAJ. I don't think anyone will really notice unless they've knitted the pattern! There is no way I'm pulling this one back and I know The Princess will not complain, so it's staying as is.

AJ update

Apricot Jacket - Rebecca #27 Posted by Picasa

A quick update on the Apricot Jacket. After much fiddling and frogging with this pattern I decided to knit it in one piece to the underarm. I placed stitch markers for each side seam and incorporated the increases either side of the markers.

It's knitting up quickly and will do the other front tonight, the back and band tomorrow, with the sleeves fitted in before Friday hopefully.

If anyone is considering knitting this, don't spend too much time reading the pattern, knit it by sight and the graph provided. Let me assure you, it's easier that way! I still think it's an easy knit.

The pattern suggests a 5mm needle, but I've gone down to a 4mm and still think the rib and stst is too loose. The ggh Java is a soft loose yarn and accommodates 4mm easily. If I have enough left over I'd like to play a little with the tension for this yarn as I think it is an interesting ply and would probably use it again. Very, very soft yarn. Should be lovely to wear.

I'll post a photo of AJ after blocking and a close-up of the yarn fibre.

Harmony on the Avenue ...

I'm looking forward to this knit! Posted by Picasa

The Kim Hargreaves Harmony kit arrived today. I just want to start it, but I can't. I promised myself I would finish Apricot Jacket before beginning another knit.

How long do you think I will last?

Beautifully packaged and well wrapped for the trip from the uk. I tried to load a few photos, but honestly, I'm hopeless. Just couldn't work out how to get more than one photo in this post.

Will be interesting knitting with the Summer Tweed. I hear it is a little hard on the hands, so pleased this is not a big knit.

.... better get motoring on Apricot.

A note on GGH Java

Hi Jacqueline, thanks for dropping by.

The GGH Java is great to knit with, very quick on the needles, but I'm using Addi turbos. A friend is also knitting with the yarn and initially started knitting with bamboo needles, but found they split the yarn, so changed to Addi also. I've not had a problem with splitting.

Puchased the yarn from Rikes Wollmaus in Germany http://www.rikes-wollmaus.de/ Best if you order yarns with a friend to benefit from shared shipping, that's what I usually do, otherwise it gets quite expensive. From memory the yarn worked out at about AUD6.50 / 50g ball delivered. The order took about 10 days to arrive. I personally found Rikes Wollmaus very good to deal with.

Hope that helps.

Spring on the Avenue ...

Cotton top in 8ply (double knit) Posted by Picasa

Another little cardigan for a special tiny tot. This one is done in a cotton blend crepe. A very old 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend I used years ago for cabled sweaters for myself and know the yarn wears and machine washes well. The band doesn't give a length or gauge, so went ahead with fingers crossed with 6 balls. Just enough!

Another one of my own designs knitted on a 4mm circular, one piece to the underarms, with the band knitted at the same time. I do find knitting the band along with the garment a pain, as the back neck is then fiddly in that I graft the band to the open neck stitches of the back, and then graft the band together so there is no sewing, apart from fitting in the sleeves. The tie front stitches are added by casting on and then off, when doing the garter stitch feature.

All in all I'm quite pleased with the result. A little tight on the mannequin, but perfect fit on the tiny tot who'll get it tomorrow.

What's next... I think the Apricot Jacket from Rebecca 27 in ggh Java, #3 of course, just as the pattern appears. I'll have to whip through this one as I know the Kim Hargreaves Harmony kit is arriving this week and want to knit it and get some wear out of it before summer really hits here in Oz. I've chosen colour Puff in Rowan Summer Tweed.
