New Blogger joins the knit scene ...

Most probably the last post before I take off for a couple of weeks, but had to add this note to my blog!

Another knitting friend has joined the ranks of the knitting bloggers. Go say hi and encourage her to waste as much time as we do surfing the net for knitting news, patterns, yarns, general gossip and projects that we just have to knit! Just don't tell her life will never be the same.

Ariann progress ...

Ariann continues to grow and I must say I love the Eco Yarns Pakucho cotton. I'm using Sage. Easy to knit, with a good stitch definition. I'd certainly purchase this yarn again.

Thank you to all who dropped by and wished me happy bday - it was actually the 22nd, but I obviously miscalculated the timing, as my post appeared on the 21st. Not that it really matters - I don't feel or look any different.

To answer a few questions from the last post:
I did have a lovely day, with lots of flowers, presents and phone calls.
M-H ... will have to make an effort and join you for an afternoon at SSK.
Kristen ... I am definitely a Capricorn.

Wishing Kate a Happy Birthday for next week. I'll be away and not sure if I'll have access to the net.

2 more sleeps!

Today's my birthday ... Happy Birthday to me ...

This is an early post as I'm off out to spend the day with my Darling Daughter, the Princess and Tiny Twins. I'm not sure what they have in store for me, but I know there will be coffee and cake involved and a very excited little Princess who will be only too eager to blow out those candles. Go for it Princess! The Tiny Twins are too young to know what is going on, but enjoy being out and about watching people and at the moment, what everyone is eating from those plates they can never get their hands on. Two pair of tiny eyes watching every mouthful.

Spent a wonderful day yesterday with a knitting friend, who dropped by for a few hours and gave me these gorgeous flowers for my Bday!

We drank coffee and nibbled on date scones, knitted and of course, discussed what we were currently knitting and would knit next (as you all know, our knitting list is never long enough). I tried on a couple of B's hand-knits - they are gorgeous and next on my list. I didn't think to take photos - I will next time we meet, which is scheduled early January. I'll tell you all about them when I have photos, but just to keep you interested they are, Cherry - to the pattern - and Brocade from the RYC alpaca book knitted in cotton without the bobbles. Both look fabulous on B, so very eager to complete Ariann and begin two new knits.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas on Knit Avenue ...

Fleece on Earth, Good Wool to All

Wishing everyone who visits Knitting on the Avenue a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

Have been doing a little xmas knitting, so will post photos after the gift arrives at it's destination, as we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise!

ps: I came across the woolly wishes years ago on the net, but cannot remember where. If anyone is aware of the author, please let me know and I'll apply the appropriate credit.

I made a promise and forgot about it ...

I purchased a princess dress for the now 3 year old from an eBay seller in Western Australia touchedbyafairy and promised I mentioned her site on my blog... and promptly forgot in all the busyness last week.

This particular seller was ever so kind in shipping this princess dress to me in super quick time as I purchased it only days before the birthday event.

So a great big thank you not only to this person, but to people who go out of their way to help others.

(sorry, blogger will not let me direct link to the eBay site)

A button for CeCe ...

I truly never thought you'd all want to see another CeCe modelled. I mean, they all look the same. I forgot to mention on my initial post, I knitted the three-quarter length sleeve - sits just right for me.

As per usual, I couldn't find a button anywhere, so headed back home to raid the button collection. You all keep your good buttons, don't you? You never know when they'll come in handy. Look at that - just like a bought one! I split the Calmer in half to sew the button.

The button is actually a good match, the flash is lightening the button in the photo, but on the garment is looks as if it were made for it.

One other point I forgot to mention to anyone knitting or considering CeCe - use a flat button. A friend quite rightly pointed out that a button with a shank will not sit correctly (of course I had to try just to make sure - she was right). Have a look at some of the others that have been knit and the buttons being used. It's always a good idea to research your project before you begin and with the blogs it's fabulously easy. Most of the time you'll be able to choose the style, yarn, button, etc, that looks the best when all the work's been done for you, and, a good portion of the time someone has already completed one and modelling it for you - oh so easy!

Also, you'll need extra stitch markers when knitting to make life easier when increasing/decreasing, etc.

Knit on people ... now, onto the next knit. I think I'll head back to Brocade and use the Green Espiga, but without bobbles this time.

Nora, if you drop by, how is your Mother going on Brocade and what yarn is she using? Would love an update. You'd have no problem knitting Cece.

It's that time of year again ...

... and they think they can keep me outter that tree .... hahahahaha

Every year people, every year - this cat climbs the tree, oh so delicately, and balances on the branches. She very rarely disturbes the decorations or lights. It will be interesting this year as she is a lot bigger than previous years.

Merry Christmas everyone - this year has flown by for me.

CeCe in Rowan Calmer

Pattern : CeCe
Yarn : Rowan Calmer in Coffee Bean
Time : approx 2 weeks

Made a couple of changes to the pattern : knitted 2 x 2 rib for the bands instead of 1x1 and lengthened by one pattern.

All that's needed is a button!

I'd probably knit another one, but not with Calmer. Next time I'd use a crisp cotton, but as always, it's down to personal preference.

Nora asked if I liked the Calmer. I don't mind it, but I don't find it as fabulous as many bloggers have. I have this awful feeling it may tend to rub and only time will tell, so I'll let you know, as I think I'll be wearing CeCe quite a bit as she is a great little number with jeans.

Calmer is very easy to knit with - both metal and bamboo. I found I could easily knit the bulk of the garment on metal with lots of stitches, but when it came to the sleeves and working on fewer stitches, it was easier on the bamboo dpns rather than the metal.
