Debbie Bliss Fair Isle Cardigan ...

… in pink of course, for the Princess.

I’m breaking a promise I made to myself a while back. I was not going to begin another knit until the one I was presently working on was finished.

I’ve been longing to knit a fair isle for ages and just couldn’t wait another day.

It’s from the Debbie Bliss book Special Family Knits. I’m not using the specified yarns, but yarns from my stash. The colours are very close, so the overall effect will not be too different.

The DB yarns are probably a 4-5ply, whereas the stash yarn is an 8ply. The overall appearance will still look good and of course will knit up faster.

I’m happy.

Canberra visit

I cannot believe I missed
this!!!!!!!!

National Museum of Australia Canberra
Eternity Series
The Colours of Jenny Kee

Canberra is an interesting place to visit.

Our first stop was of course the
Knit 1 Blog 1 Exhibition! To see everyone’s work first hand makes so much of a difference. There are so many talented people out there, not only on the knitting scene, but other handcrafted work as well. Loved it girls!

I couldn’t talk my husband into joining me here
All Things Chocolate.

We took in the Vintage Village Fair at
Blundells’ Cottage.

Visited the
Old Bus Depot Markets on Sunday.

Found a yarn seller that I’d not heard of before – Wensleydale Woollens – selling commercially spun and dyed yarns. Looked lovely so purchased three balls to try. Unfortunately they do not have a web site.

Said hello to Bev from
Belisa Cashmere at the markets.

Visted the
Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex. What a fabulous place and talk about luck!

Today, August 19th, was the one day of the year the complex is open to the public. We enjoyed a guided bus tour around the whole complex … it was a great morning.

We also wandered around
Parliament House and Old Parliament House.

Our weekend ended with a visit to the Canberra SnB gathering at Starbucks where I met
Jejune, Bells and Happy Spider, plus a couple of other knitters, but I’ve already forgotten their names (sorry!).

Thanks for having me girls. It was wonderful meeting you all and seeing what you’re working on. Jejune, the Mermaid gloves are just gorgeous. Photos on your site do not do them justice.

That just about sums up our weekend. It was wonderful just getting away from Sydney for a break … a real break, where no-one can find you and you don’t have to answer the phone. It was cold and wet and I loved every minute.

Oh yes ... the Mommy test!

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.

"Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been on the ground and you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs." I replied.

At this point my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Mommy, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart."

I was thinking quickly. "All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it or they don't let you be a Mommy."

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy."

"Exactly." I replied back with a big smile on my face.

When you're finished laughing, send this to a Mom and make her day!!!

My daughter sent me this email this morning ... I don't know where it's from so unable to credit. Enjoy and pass it on!

Walking at last!

Here we are, walking at long last. The twins are now 18 months old. We were beginning to think they would never walk… well up until last week that was. Then, all of a sudden one stood up and began walking, the other was a little reluctant, but as of Friday, obviously not wanting to be left out of too many fun activities, has decided to join the other kids!

Trying to take photos is impossible! As soon as they see a camera they run toward it, laughing, tons of laughter.

Too, two, cute little boys!

Kaffe Fassett

Well, I never thought I’d see the day when Kaffe Fassett would release another knitting book.

This is good people – I’m thrilled! He is indeed a master.

Kaffe knits again will be launched in the UK mid September.

KF Calendar.

I’ve loved and followed KF designs from his early days and also with Rowan. My daughter even knitted one of his designs for her husband when she was about 22, which I am still in awe of.

He has recently visited Sydney, but this time I did not attend any of his workshops – they were on quilting. The previous two visits, that I am aware of, were many years ago and dedicated to knitting. I attend them both. I cannot recall if Brandon Mably was with KF on both occasions, but certainly on the second. Brandon is wonderful to work with in class. The only downside to both workshops was that they were almost identical, but, they were certainly very worth while attending. I mean, I met Kaffe Fassett!

Those were the days, when I was into fair isle and absolutely nothing else. To knit a plain, patterned or cabled garment was not in my vocabulary, whereas now, I very rarely knit fair isle.

His colour combinations are fabulous. Sure, you see a lot around now and other people are doing similar, BUT, Kaffe Fassett, to my knowledge, was the first to create and produce the most wonderful knitting books ever, and I have been a pretty dedicated follower of the knitting craft since the age of 15. People, that was many moons ago and I’m not going there. You will just have to take my word on that one.

There’s always something new happening in the knitting world!

Enjoy your weekend whatever you are doing.

Rowan #42 and RYC releases

The new season releases are out!

Colourway in the UK have the best photos, as long as you don’t have a problem with pop-ups.

http://www.colourway.co.uk/index2.html

Kangaroo UK is another site and easier to access photowise, but do not have all releases available at present.

http://www.kangaroo.uk.com:80/

I’ve ordered Rowan #42, so eagerly waiting its arrival to see what is actually on offer.

A
Kidsilk Dream looks interesting, but with the arty shots, not too sure whether I like the styles or not. Looks like a lovely look-it book though.
