Twinings Australian Afternoon Tea Party for 3!

Today at noon I met with a couple of online knitting friends to share a cup of Twinings Australian Afternoon tea.

It was suggested by 2paw, who invited Unravelled to join us, and what a good idea it was!

We chatted for about half an hour, compared nomnoms – mmmmm, a little knitting news, but most of all we shared a cuppa between knitting friends.

The tea is delicious and I must add that I have been enjoying my pack of brew for about a week now. In our household we have nicknamed the tea ‘Kevi’s cuppa’.

To my taste buds the tea is smooth, not bitter at all, strong flavoured, generally a pleasant cup for anytime of day.

Kevi’s cuppa is a blend of Irish Breakfast, Russian Caravan and Orange Pekoe … who would have thought!

Kevin Rudd was one of 65 Australian celebrities who participated in the tea challenge and you can read all about it here.

Ladies, thank you once again for an enjoyable chat and of course a wonderful cup of tea.

For the past few months I have been collecting buttons for knits completed, (some years old that have never, ever had buttons – until now), knits I am presently working on and planned knits for the little people during 2012.

Since my blog post last May when I first discovered Buttonalia, I have squirreled away some gorgeous buttons, slipping them into project bags on arrival from the UK, to be sewn on to the finished garment without fussing about looking endlessly for buttons – as I always do.

So I thought I’d give another heads-up on a fabulous Etsy store – Buttonalia.

I don’t know what I would do without Sharry’s buttons. I simply love them. I realise there are lots of other buttons ‘out there’, but for myself, personally, Sharry’s buttons suit my style.

The Disagree Button ... Ravelry

I have been following a particular thread with interest, wondering when it was going to run off the rails, as a lot of threads do in ravelry. Completely forgetting the original topic and attacking each other in a lot of instances, this one being no exception.

How easy it is to disagree with someone when you are faceless. A cowardly act in any circumstance, but especially when the person being disagreed with has no idea why, will never have answers and the coward simply moves onto another victim leaving most hurt, upset and wondering what on earth they said/did to upset so many people.

I have also noticed that when a topic continues, everyone seems to be in boots and all hitting the disagree button, topping up the disagree numbers to over 100 sometimes. Wonder how the original poster feels now? Do the disagree button pushers care – I think not.

I am not suggesting that people not disagree with an action or comment, but I am disagreeing with the fact that they do so without a name.

Stand up and own your disagree, put a face and comment to your action. Actually participate in the thread and respect the other person.

Grow up and act responsibly.

If you cannot do that …put your fingers to better use … go back to your knitting. Isn’t that why you are there in the first place?

Finished the third pair of mittens tonight and the kittens are absolutely delighted. So much so, the second pair of fingerless mittens is on the hands of a sweet little man who has worn them to bed. I’m truly thrilled the kids love these easy peasy knits so much.

On a whim decided last night I would knit mittens for all three of my little kittens. The first mitten was knit tonight - did not realise how easy they were to make. No doubt I will knit the mate tomorrow and another two pair before the end of the week, because you cannot give a pair of mittens to just one kitten!

Merlin and Chloe ...

Merlin is coming along beautifully, although I have adjusted the pattern to just two pattern panels, as I found it a little wide for myself. This will suit my wardrobe and I know I’ll be comfortable wearing it.

A very clever and easy pattern to follow – a good knit while watching tv. I’m sure I will make more in other colourways and perhaps finer yarn. Pattern also available on Ravelry.

I’m using one Crazy Zauberball in colour 2092 4ply and Grignasco Merinofine colour 002 black 5ply. The colourway is just changing to orange and light grey. Will post a photo when it’s done.

All knitting is closely scrutinized by my constant companion Chloe. It’s a tight squeeze with knitting and kitty on ones lap, but very warm in winter.

Socks, Buttons, New Project ...

Green socks. Who do we know that knits and knits with the beautiful colour green … yes it’s 2paw, and I have been unbelievably remiss in not acknowledging these gorgeous, cosy, wear them all through winter, green socks.

2paw knitted these for me years ago. Yes gentle knitters, your eyes do not deceive you – 2paw knitted and sent me these gorgeous socks years ago and I have never bloggerly acknowledged this awesome gift. Each winter I get them out of my sock draw and wear them and each winter I remind myself that I have not thanked 2paw publicly, but at last, and I must admit, only to make myself feel better (you know, no longer guilty). 2paw, I thank you. They are truly awesome socks and I love them.

I’ve also had another delivery of scrumptious buttons from my now one and only button store in the whole wide world - buttonalia - on Etsy. Sharry, I love your buttons. They go so well with knitterly projects, and the packaging - it’s so much fun receiving these in the post, plus Sharry always adds a lovely little note (look, the shoes have bling!).

The Rowan Kid Classic from another all time favourite UK seller – Jannette’s Rare Yarns, is a project for The Princess - a red garter stitch coat, with hood of course, and a tie belt. Sharry’s buttons are a perfect match, although the match does not look perfect in the photo, is it.

Today it’s freezing cold in Sydney, with the weekend weather prediction of rain. Great knitting weather!

To all who are going to Bendigo and Canberra this weekend, have a wonderful weekend. I miss both every year as we celebrate son-in-law’s birthday. Oh well.

Disney on Ice ... The Worlds of Fantasy

Last pic for these holidays.

Today was Disney on Ice - the kids enjoyed it - we think. They didn't actually show excitement or talk about the show on the way home. We know they enjoyed the toys and treats before the show and were super excited on the way.

The costumes and stage sets were as fabulous as ever, but the show itself ... mmmmmhhhhhhh ... totally disappointing compared to other years and we have been going for four years now.

In my opinion, the only truly exciting part was when Lightening Mcqueen and his friends were on ice, and that was a very, very small part of the show - didn't time it, but maybe ten minutes. The applause says it all.

Next year ... not sure if we will spend the money, but I'm sure the kids will make the final decision.

Overall, another great day spent with family and cousins arriving tonight for two days!

We were out for morning tea earlier in the week and came across a healthy eating activity for the kids.

These little people had just devoured drinks and nibbles of the unhealthiest kind, but simply could not resist putting together a selection of their own to top up their always empty tummies.

I must admit they did put all this food to good use, as the afternoon was filled with scootering about, dancing, chasing each other, before settling down for half an hour to draw and colour, followed closely with a refuel of home made biscuits and a healthy drink of water!

Disney on Ice tomorrow! Cousins visiting later in the day and staying ‘till the weekend, which the kids are truly looking forward to … and that’s about it holiday-wise, apart from a couple of birthday parties on the weekend.

So cute (totally unbiased opinion from their Gran)!

Fun in the holidaze ...

It’s always interesting taking this lot out for eats. Everything starts off okay, and then the games begin. They always want their photos taken and the faces, oh the faces … these are the goods ones! They are always an amusement to other diners, but always in a good way. The kids are not noisy; they are simply kids and just wanna have fun!

We hit the playground at 9.30am and were one of the first. The kids took their scooters, played on the swings, roundabouts and climbing gyms, before we headed off along the walking/bike/scooter track to say hi to the ducks and other water animals living on the pond. We’d forgotten about the netball courts! The kids had a great time scooting around the courts, before we were off again onto the track.

I’m gonna have to get myself a scooter to keep up with them … now that will make an interesting photo – granny on a scooter racing around with the kids! J I’m so competitive I know they will ban me from racing with them.

I’m so lucky.

Just discovered a cute Etsy knitting site in Finland - Succaplokki - it was an add on Ravelry (where else!) and simply had to blog about these trendy knitting accessories. What great gifts for knitting friends and of course you would have to spoil yourself as well.

Knitting - Crazy Zauberball ...

I purchased this yarn a couple of weeks ago at my lys mainly because I love the colour combination.

The big question then was - what to knit with this gorgeous creature.

I knew I wanted a scarf of some description and have been trolling Ravelry for just the perfect pattern, but nothing seemed to jump out at me ... until ... just like magic, Merlin appeared!

Oh how gorgeous is this scarf!

Have purchased the pattern and will begin tonight ... I know, I have other projects half-way done, but if I don't get started winter will be over here in Oz and I want.to.wear.it.now.

Will be busy for a while ....

Holidays ...

The kids have grown so much. They are now venturing out onto the road. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac, with three driveways just where the kids play, but everyone is aware that's the best place to meet and have fun. We have great neighbours, even the P-plate drivers are cautious, so as long as there is an adult watching, the kids can scoot about to their hearts content.

It was bitterly cold today, but the kids didn't seem to notice. I kept checking their little hands to see if they were cold, but obviously all the racing about kept them warm as toast. They began their day with sweaters, but after half-an-hour they were discarded and cool drinks were required to refuel these scooter riders.

Not a lot of knitting, but have been doing a little, plus sewing up a cardi I found in my knitting room from last year ... I'd forgotten all about it.

Knitting group tomorrow. Looking forward to catching up with a few of the girls that do not have school age children and see what's new at the lys.

Raven (not happy with this one)

Simple Cables

Ski sweater

Finally completed the cable sweaters for the boys and have begun a new sweater for The Princess.
The boys sweater are Rowan All Seasons Cotton.
The ski sweater for The Princess is Debbie Bliss Merino Chunky (not cashmerino). I've had the DB merino chunky for a while and was lucky enough to purchase a few more balls on Ravelry a while back. Holding my breath on this one as I'm not too sure whether I will actually have enough yarn to complete, but of course will improvise if needed. Yes, I have more, in a similar colour, very close to this particular colour. If need be I'll swap colour halfway through the snowdrop pattern and all should be fine.
Do not have a pattern for either of the kids knits, just winging it. I did begin to knit Raven for the boys with the All Seasons Cotton, but was not happy with the way the pattern looked with this yarn. Cable look good in just about any yarn. Easy ... yes?

Busy with school holiday activities, but should still have time to complete a couple more sweaters before winter ends.

Into the Woods ...

... okay, remember my post a few days ago regarding the red capelet I'd fallen in love with?

Well I've broken down and contacted an online shop I order from now and again and ordered not only the Vogue magazine, but the yarn as pictured. I know, I'm extremely weak, but hopefully not too weak to quickly knit it up when my jolly little parcel arrives in a couple of weeks time! I'd love to wear this cute red number this winter.

Oh I'm so excited. Only hope this gorgeous little capelet looks half as good on me as it does on the model (dear readers, please know I am kidding myself!!!).

A few more rows and I will have completed two cabled sleeves of second princes' cabled sweater. Just the body of the little sweater to knit and I'll have knit twin sweaters and actually post knitting photos on this knitting blog, but for safety sake, please do not hold your breath!! :)

OMG I love this cape!

This issue of Vogue knitting is not due out until June ... just saw the contents on Ravelry. I'm not one for capes, but I love this simply little cape and the colour too. I'm fast heading into buying red yarns at the moment. I've never been one to wear red, but these past few weeks I've been drawn to the colour more and more. So red it will be.

I'm going to have to *subscribe to Vogue Knitting once again if they are going to produce issues like this one. Yes - I love this forthcoming issue! There are so many knits I would wear (oh yes, I'd have to knit them too, but that could happen).

Now where can I get my hands on a copy of VK as soon as it is available?

*okay. seems that's never going to happen. vogue site permits subscriptions from usa and canada only. How friendly!

I don't know this artist - my sister sent me the link, so have popped her in my 'favourites' for future purchases, as I'm sure there will be one or two for my little princess and princes.

Still no new knitting to show ... sigh. I cannot say I've definitely lost my knitting mojo as I spend hours in Ravelry looking at all the knits I'd love to have in my wardrobe ... perhaps that's the problem ;/

Purchased books with garments I simply 'must have', but seem to be short on the picking up the sticks and actually knitting them. Have all the yarn I've purchased packed up and labelled as to what each was purchased to make, but .... if anyone happens to see my mojo lurking about, please send it back.

Well I missed my actual blogging birthday, it was the 19th, but not to worry. I've been fairly remiss in writing so probably cannot really claim I have been blogging for six year. More like I have had a blog for six years :)

Will be back tomorrow with a great etsy site I've just discovered and love the painting this lovely lady does.

Almost completed a sweater for one of the twins, just one sleeve to go, with the second lined up ready to begin.

School holidays in Oz ....

... next week is the beginning of the Easter school holidays (two weeks) here in Sydney. The kids will be staying over a few days each week ... what to do!

I've managed to think of a few activities, including a dvd day at home, with popcorn of course. Baking, movies out, craft (I would never be let forget about crafting), but was struggling with ideas - that was until I read Yarnhog's blog. A Balloon Day!

What a fabulous idea. The kids love balloons, so I've had this idea to blow up their favourite coloured balloons one night when they are asleep, so when they wander down in the morning to turn on the tv, the room will be filled with coloured balloons. hmmm, just had a thought - will have to close the doors to the tv room otherwise 'cat' will have had all the fun before the kids wake up!

Will have the camera ready for this one, as they go mad with balloons.

Oriental Lily ... what a fabulous little pattern by Georgie Hallam . So easy, quick and best of all, the Princess loves it. Lots and lots of twirls, poses and photos. Ahhh a true little girl, loves her fashion and something new, even though it was knit by Gran.

I'm going to feed my knitting ego as long as I possibly can with my little people. I love knitting for them and at the moment, they love me doing just that.

Just start Raven by Sarah Hatton from The Rowan Story Book of Little Knits. Great little book with lots of easy knits that look good. Will be knitting two of course, one for each little Prince.

Weekend craft project ...

Well here we are again – Saturday afternoon with The Princess participating in one of her favourite pastimes, crafting.

Today’s project was to write and make a book, so it was off to Spotlight early this morning to purchase the necessary items. One piece of fabric containing all the favourite colours of the moment – aqua/teal. This particular piece of fabric has a glitter thread woven through it, just what a princess would want to cover her very special book. Of course we had to have little roses, aqua/teal (luckily gran still had a few glue sticks left for the glue gun!), so it was off home to begin writing, drawing, colouring, cutting and gluing.

I didn’t get photos of the inside, but the story goes something like this. There once was a girl who had two brothers, one wore green and one wore orange. The three children loved to visit toys shops where they found lots of Littlest Petshop creatures to take home and play with in their tree house. When they had finished playing with their toys they would all go swing on the tyre swing on the other side of the tree.

There were of course lots of sparkly flowers scattered throughout the pages, once again aqua/teal in colour – the pages of the book were white, so everything looked very bright and twinkly.

No knitting today, but I have had time to knit a few more rows on the dress, so not too far off from completion now.

Knitted dress ...

The Princess decided she would like a knitted dress and as we were scrolling through Ravelry looking for something she spied this little number.

We were going to order the original yarn the dress was knitted in, but the Princess decided she could not wait and we had to rush out to Spotlight and find something colourful.

Knitting with variegated yarn is always interesting and this project is no exception. Look at the strip across the lower section of the dress. I had nothing to do with this, but like it. This is just one ball of Moda Vera Marvel 8ply Col 0013 Lot 771552 at $3.99. I have begun the second ball, but only knitted a couple of rows so far, so the strip has nothing to do with beginning a new ball of yarn. Interesting.

Not a lot more knitting is required for the length, then only the sleeves to do. All up this little dress will not cost $10. Cannot wait to see how the sleeves turn out. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the knitting gods would smile upon me and organise a strip across the wrist section of each sleeve, just like on the lower skirt.

BEN 10 and the twins

Today we celebrated the twins 5^th birthday with a BEN 10 party. Yes – BEN 10 spent one hour with fourteen kids and kept them entertained the whole time.

The kids had a fabulous afternoon. It was hot, as always in late February, but BEN 10 and the kids raced around, played games, ate and drank - the hour went so quickly.

I’ve loads more photos, but I’m experiencing problems with my ‘big’ camera and cannot download them. I filled a 1.0gb disk with photos. Okay, I know, I do go overboard at times, but I love looking back over the photos. Luckily I had my tiny pocket camera with me and took the last few shots with that. So all I have to offer are a couple of pictures of the cake and Ben 10 walking past, but then again, I don’t want to bore anyone dropping by my blog with too many family happy snaps.

After all, this is a knitting blog.

Not myself ...

I’ve been fighting a bug since last Friday and to date not succeeding. Today I have almost no voice, so could not go to work. Hoping I find it before Sunday, as I’m due to work a full day.

Today I collected the twins from pre-school. They were most amused that I spoke with only a whisper. They were such good boys, helping Gran do her shopping. Lots of treats ended up in the trolley, along with a Sponge Bob Square Pants dvd for one little fellow who has the most infectious laugh and a jolly good sense of humour to go with it. Loves his cartoons, but I do think Ben10 Alien Force is still No. 1.

The twins received lots of Ben 10 Alien Force Lego for their birthday, which was given on the proviso that only Mum and Dad assembled it – Gran was having no part in that event. The kids love their Lego and spend hours playing all sorts of games. I’ve suggest to Mum and Dad they super-glue the pieces together to withstand the battles these Ninja Ben 10 seem to get themselves into. Mum thought it a good idea, not sure about Dad just yet.

Well, on to the weekend and the big 5 year old party tomorrow … BEN 10 IS GOING TO BE THERE IN PERSON. TRULY.

Well, two more weeks and I’ll have plenty of time on my hands.

I’ve decided to leave the workforce and do more knitting. I’ve squirreled away a little reserve while working, so should see me through this winter, and the next, and perhaps the following, but we won’t talk about that. I’m comfortable and happy with my lot and that’s all that matters.

My casual job kept taking up more and more hours, which I didn’t mind at the time, but in the end found I was missing the little people in my life, and of course my knitting. I’ve started a few projects and need to get them completed before the cooler weather hits, especially as these projects are for the three little people in my life.

Since January the twins have turned 5. The Princess is now 7. I want to spend more time with them before they begin their very busy lives. One of the twins is eager to read, so I’ll be spending lots of time teaching, so will have to do a little research and find appropriate books to begin teaching this bright little man.

Knitting in the New Year ...

2010 was a fabulous year. I found a casual job. Made time for the important people in my life and allowed myself time too.

Moved house to a home and area I love and enjoy.

I'm knitting again.

I jump out of bed each day with enthusiasm and energy to complete whatever I set out to do that day.

In 2004 the Fountains were being refurbished, as was Monet's Gardens and we soon discovered, so was The Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versaille. We still tripped out to Versaille and what we saw was magnificent. One could only imagine living like this.

We drove around, but could not visit, Marie Antionette’s home, the Petit Trianon, in the grounds of the Palace of Versaille.

There was so much we did not do - I dream almost daily of returning. What a fabulous, fabulous city.

Today was the schools yearly fair. Dodgem cars, mini ferris wheel and other flying rides, harley bike rides, jumping castles of all descriptions, including castles with slides, plant store, food, fun, sun and lots more.

Kids were running in all directions enjoying themselves – hugging their friends whenever they saw each other, then racing off to another ride. It was so good to see and share.

What a great way to end the school term – a Saturday full of fun. One more week of school then it’s the holidays.

Swim and Survive program

The Princess’ school has been involved in the Swim and Survive program from the Royal Life Saving Society for the past two weeks. Today was the last day, so Mummy and Gran went along to wave and add our support. The kids were freezing, but loved every minute. The Princess has been so happy the last two weeks and I think it is simply because she can now actually swim.

Swim and Survive provides opportunities to build confidence and respect for the water and develops:

* Swimming technique
* Water safety

An essential requirement if you live in Australia.

I’ve been after a coffee machine for ages. Daughter and friends have purchased various brands, with my favourite being a Breville. Off we went on the weekend to our favourite appliance stores to negotiate the best price and came away very happy with the dollar value and the exact machine that will suit our needs.

Laughed to myself when I sat down to actually read the instruction booklet on ‘Using Your Machine’, to see the first item is ‘A minute to learn’, as we’d no sooner walked in the door after purchasing the machine when daughter and family turned up. Quick easy instructions resulted in coffees all ‘round.

Today I have to myself, no work, no children, just kitty, myself and the coffee machine and yes, that is chocolate on top!

There's no other way to eat cream when you're out at a cafe .... right?

Thursday’s are usually interesting days on KnitAvenue. I never know what is going to happen. Just when I think I have the whole day to myself and I’m laying in bed at 9am in the morning (I know, unthinkable isn’t it!), someone continually rings my doorbell and I have to actually get out of bed and go downstairs!!!

As I open and peek through the crack in the door, two of my favourite little men greet me with the biggest, most beautiful smiles in the world (unbiased opinion from their greatest fan – or should that be Gran LOL) … “Grandma! Can we stay with you today?” they say as they rush through the door heading straight for the tv room.

… uh, sure kids. Come right on in.

We begin our day with chips and cheezels, washed down with a coffee for me and lemonade for them (don’t tell their Mum!). The day did get better with a banana, apples, vegemite and cheese sandwiches later on, topped off with lunch of chips and chicken nuggets. These boys can eat!

I had intended to play cricket and spend some time at the park with them, but the weather turned cold, windy and wet, so we had to settle for dvds. I know, they were so disappointed...

We finished off our time together at taekwondo this afternoon, then home to Mum and big sister, who also had lots to tell. Big sister’s school has a week of swimming activities this week and from what I hear, she is having a great time.

Roxie, remember the monkeys you sent over for the kids at xmas. I’ll have to get some photos up. They still love them. Princess has them draped all over her bed and one little Prince still sleeps with the brown one almost every night.

What's been happening at KnitAvenue ...

Since last I wrote I’ve cut back my time on Ravelry dramatically. Unfortunately this also includes my knitting time … actually; I’ve not knitted a stitch – well nothing worth mentioning.

I’ve sold a house, purchased a home, found casual employment that I’m over the moon happy about, spent more time with my grand kids than every before, met some new people, lost touch with a few too, put on a little weight (naughty). Basically, my life has changed. I’m certainly happier.

Still sorting out my new home and for those that may be wondering how I went with parting with some books … I just couldn’t do it. I still have every single book and magazine lovingly placed back in their original position in the book cases (note I said ‘cases’). We are all happy.

This has been a huge move for husband and myself, when most couples our age are downsizing, we have actually upsized, as I wanted extra space to share with the grand kids. Larger rooms and a bigger grassed area for slides and swings and generally running around. For someone who truly loves the colder months, I’m eagerly looking forward to summer to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Roll on the warmer weather!

5 years blogging ...

today Knitting on the Avenue celebrates five years blogging. Although I have been rather quiet the last couple, I've blogged as often as I could. I can sum up in one word the reason I blog so infrequently and I'm sure a lot of you will understand - RAVELRY! :)

So it's time to thank all that have visited and left a comment, or who have just dropped by and not commented, as I often do on other blogs - thank you all and look forward to your next visit.

Life has changed so much for me over the past six years ... my daughter has given us three fabulous little people to enjoy - The Princess who is 6 - The Fabulous Princes who are 4. I did not understand the meaning of being a Gran, but I can honestly say - I absolutely love being a Gran.

A few of you will know that we have recently purchased a new home, so for the next four weeks or so, I will be busy packing and moving and trying to decide what part of my life I want to take with me to the new dwelling and what will not move on with us.

The hardest decision will be sorting my books ... I've spent two days going through them and find out of hundreds of books I have three magazines I am prepared to part with... and dear readers, these three magazines are not knitting magazines!

I simply could not let this day pass without at least writing a few lines ... five years ... so much has happened ... happy times, new little people, a few family and friends no longer with us ... live life my friends, be happy and share both your sad and happy times, it makes life easier... but most of all keep on knitting! xx

The kids had a great day. We even worked out how to use the camera.

We took these pictures before everyone arrived this morning. Grandad was away at golf and Mummy and Daddy had an evening out, so the kids staying over-night.

We made sausage rolls right after breakfast and ate them before lunch! Luckily we had enough room left for the lamingtons Mum and Dad brought along for the barbeque.

Back to school this week. It's been a busy six week break.

Holiday Fun ...

A couple of the children stayed over Friday night so we could go to the movies Saturday morning to see The Princess and the Frog. Lovely movie for 3+ year olds, although Prince #1 did get a little edgy the last quarter hour, but still was a great little man to sit it out.

The Princess (my Princess that is) enjoyed the movie no end; we all had a great time eating our way though chocolate ice creams, a bag of maltesers and a giant lemonade. Needless to say no-one was interested in lunch afterward!

Being surrounded all morning by fairytale dreams and wishes, Gran simply had to visit a favourite store in search of the perfect outfit for her Princess and of course something for her handsome little Princes too.

The Princess found a fairytale skirt and top and wonders of wonders, it fitted. With lots of twirls and dance steps around the store, lots of oooos and aaaahhhhs, a big beaming smile on a little Princess face and the deal was done. All #1 Prince wanted for himself and his brother were lots of sea creatures to play with in the bath, of course these seas creatures have the ability to squirt water great distances and cause enormous amounts of laughter.

All too soon it was time to go … tired little people cat napped all the way home.

The Princess has a new friend – Hello Kitty.

I know HK has been around for a long time, but did not realise children as young as six would be so infatuated with this little kitty that does not have a mouth.

HK is pretty cute and certainly seems harmless enough, but it seems kitty has replaced Barbie and not only in The Princess’ life, but quite a number of her little school friends too.

Oh well, guess Barbie always has Ken to keep her company.

Well here we are - the knitting bunch at lunch.

Venue : Cherryhills at Pennant Hill, Sydney, Oztralia.

We had a great morning with lots of lovely nibbles and a wine or two and of course a few pressies thrown in too. Sort of sad that we're not going to see each other for a month of two, but I'm sure we'll all have lots to tell when we get back together again.

There was one more, the owner of this gorgeous little knitting shop, Cherryhills, but she simply would not join us for a photo shoot. Maybe we'll be lucky next year. Thank you once again Sue for sharing your gorgeous little shop with us for yet another year.

Not long now and Christmas will be upon us. Lots of excitement with the children, who I might add have all put in their "orders" with Santa!

Tomorrow is our last knitting day for the year at the LYS and the girls are celebrating the year with a Christmas get-together.

I cannot remember when I first discovered Loani Prior's blog - grandpurlbaa.com, but immediately raced off to purchase her first book - Wild Tea Cosies, and have been going back ever since to see what this talented, zingy lady would come up with next.

Loani's second book, Really Wild Tea Cosies, is due for release April 2010. The cover alone is absolutely brilliant, so know I'll be adding this book to my ever increasing library. Love the cosie on the cover - Loani's colours are brilliant, not to mention her designs!

Loani, wishing you all the best with this second brilliant book. Can't wait to see what's inside !!

We celebrated today so family and friends could share this very special day with us.

Wink, wink, nod, nod … it’s only $$$

Today I received my subscribed copy to an Aussie knitting magazine, but was so annoyed when browsing through the free patterns, I was literally spitting chips.

I have recently purchased the particular knitting book from my LYS for $28 just to knit this one pattern!!!!!

It’s great the magazine is able to obtain patterns for free, but for those of us who have already paid, as in handing over our money to the pattern company/designer/distributor!!! - it is not fair. It’s also a slap in the face for the LYS owners as I’m sure they will receive complaints from customers that the pattern book/pamphlet they paid for is now available free.

More than not I have purchased a knitting book just to knit one pattern, only to have that particular pattern released for free a number of weeks or months later. Certainly one well known designer instantly comes to mind, releasing patterns from previous books.

Where does this leave our LYS or for that matter, the knitters?

Knitting patterns being released after people have already paid for them certainly makes me mad and I’m sure there are a lot of knitters out there that are fed up with this behaviour too.

Knitting Projects ...

It’s been so long since I’ve blogged. Yes, I’m lazy. It’s so easy simply logging onto Ravelry and spending hours flitting from one group to another, browsing though the new knits people have completed, or started. All the new yarns, sales … what’s happening in almost every part of the knitting world … truly, it’s never ending.

I have to get back to actually knitting some of the projects I’ve saved in my favourites … there are three projects I’ve been working on for months, just not motivated to complete, or in the case of the twins, simply cannot face knitting that second garment.

Just finished a cardigan for the Princess, knitted with Sirdar Luxury Cotton dk in Peony, colour 669. I’ve enhanced the neckline by adding a fine ribbon and silver beads.

Last weekend I was at the Designers & Creators Expo at Turramurra where I purchased Jane Slicer-Smith’s new book Swing, Swagger, Drape, Knit the colors of Australia. I’m knitting the Coco Vee Capelet using cottons I have in my stash. The capelet is worked in wool but I prefer cotton to give drape … almost complete, then it will be back to a project I’ve had sitting for quite some time – Rowan Lacy Top.

I’ve already knitted one, but it was a little small, so knitting another … only the lacy top and capped sleeves to go. The garment is knit in Kidsilk Haze on 3.75mm and surprisingly knits up fairly quickly … provided one is focused and works on one project at a time! ☺

Lost Kitty

Hello, I’m lost.

I don’t know my name. My foster Mum has called me Tabitha, but that’s just for today, as tomorrow I go to the vet to see if I am micro chipped. I hope I am as I’d love to see my family again.

I was found under the patio lounge, cold and crying, but I’m very happy now as my foster Mum has given me lots of cuddles and toys to play with, and, I have my very own room! The food is good too.

There is another cat in the house, it’s big and quite scary, so I stay in my little room and play, sometimes napping and munching on the different foods I’ve been given.

I’d like to stay, but I should really go home …

I’m hoping Little Tabitha is micro chipped, otherwise I’m going to have to leave her at the vet to find a new home for as much as I’d love to keep her, there’s a certain man in the house who simply does not want another cat (boo and hiss).

If there is anyone in the Sydney area who would love a little kitty, she is already house trained, please leave a message and I’ll let everyone know what the situation is once I’ve been to the vet on Saturday.

Update : Kitty is not micro chipped.

Update #2 : We've found a fabulous home for the kitten - a lovely family with three children who are overjoyed with this gorgeous bundle of fluff. I was so sorry to see her go as she has developed so much over this past week, displaying the most gentle of natures and is certainly a cuddle little miss. Just thought you'd like to know.

The blog has been sadly neglected. No xmas cards have been sent, no presents wrapped, no email to friends … the twins have had tonsillitis again, but are quickly back on their feet … the Princess is now unwell.

Family arrive making eight children in the house – 12 years to 11 months … too many people, too busy a time of year … too much time spent in the car running around … the cat is now unwell and is scheduled for surgery soon after xmas … no knitting.

It may all sound bad, but it is not. It’s simply life with kids and pets.

Santa will be here soon … five more sleeps … all will be forgotten and lots of fun and laughter to look forward to … there will definitely be no knitting.

Fairies ...

‘tis almost that time again, when many people and companies send out invitations for xmas parties and generally getting together with friends to celebrate the end of another year.

I’m always at a loss to find something to wear to these functions, but, this year it’s different. My ww target was achieved many months ago, allowing me to now reap the rewards both mentally and physically.

Today my husband and I went shopping to purchase a dress for an evening this Thursday. I know clothes shopping is not one of his favourite activities (why I do not know!), but today he was more than happy to accompany me and actually select dresses and swap sizes for me while I simply tried on different styles in numerous dressing rooms.

I wanted him to be involved this time and he was happy to do so. It will probably never happen again, but that’s okay, once in a lifetime is fine with me.

There was much excitement, laughter and running around before the first photo was taken, then they were off into the night (followed closely by their Mums of course).

The Princess would not dress up as a witch or anything else for that matter. Apparently there is nothing else in the world other than Princesses and Fairies of course!

Love this yarn and the end result fabric. So easy to knit with on the Bamboo, but a pain with metal needles.

Did not have a pattern, simply wanted a plain garment to wear with jean, so measured, swatched, knitted and crossed fingers.

The garment is knitted in one piece to the underarm with shaped waist and slim sleeves. Shaped shoulders and joined with three needle bind off. I do not recommend this type of joining on shoulders for this yarn. With my next Giotto project I'll actually cast off the shoulder seams and sew together by hand.

Totally happy with the garment, apart from the button of course, but I always have issues with buttons. This one is not staying, but will do until I find an appropriate replacement.

Sorry, edited to change needle size - should have been 6mm not 5mm.

Five days away, at the Beach house, with the family … Mum, Dad, Princess and twin Princes’, Grandad and Grandma (aka me!).

Friday we travelled south for three hours - the sun was shining – it was hot! That beach was lookin’ pretty good from where we were sitting and we couldn’t wait to hit the sand with our towels and togs!

Spent Friday afternoon paddling in the cold, cold water - found lots of little pipis and fish in the surf, crabs too, which absolutely fascinated the kids, especially when Daddy held them in the cup of his hand and they poked their little legs out and ran around.

The next two days were cold and wet, but we made it to the beach again Monday for a while and took lots of holiday happy snaps before the rain set in and we were forced indoors once again.

Dad and Grandad went fishing a couple of times … it seemed the fish were on holiday too! Luckily Grandma packed the frozen fish, we crumbed and served with fresh steamed veges, white and red wine. With the Dora the Explorer video playing in the background, kids running everywhere, it was just like a dinner out!

The kids had an absolute ball. No one wanted to go home, especially Mummy. She wants to live at the beach.

I am so lucky. I have a fabulous family and I love every minute I spend with each and every one of them.

Knitting … I took lots with me, but did not knit one single stitch, too busy enjoying myself!

We're off to the beach .... see you in a week!

I have been knitting; finishing a few items, resulting in the never-ending search for buttons. Garments completed last season sit, unworn, waiting for buttons.

Does everyone have this problem or am I simply too particular.

Spotlight, Lincraft, specialty button stores, have not even satisfied me. I fib, a couple of the specialty button stores visited did have buttons, gorgeous buttons, but I really don’t want to spend $5 - $15 per button. Especially on one garment that has 12 buttons. The buttons would work out more expensive than the yarn!

Bought this little book to knit a simply cardigan in some Kochoran #14 I’ve had sitting in my stash for ages.

When I initially looked at this book I wasn’t too taken with the contents, but on further investigation on the net, found there are at least four items I’d be happy to knit. Hoping I can get this one done before our winter ends, but not holding out too much hope.

I’ll be lovely for next year as I love the colour of the Kochoran.

A very easy pattern; one a beginner knitter could easily knit and be happy with the result.

I’m hoping I have not read the pattern incorrectly and will find out shortly as a friend is about to knit this very jacket, but I found the sleeves too tight. The yoke and lower body sections of the garment fit me well, with room to spare, but, when the sleeves are attached it makes for a snug fit, but not uncomfortable.

Therefore, only one point I would mention if anyone is thinking to knit this jacket; the sleeves are too tight both in the lower section to the underarm and then again in the top. The top shaping is far too short in relation to the yoke armhole shaping. I had to really stretch the arm top shaping to fit it into the yoke; the lower sleeve to the armhole shaping needs to be wider. Again, provided I have not made a mistake while knitting.

Apart from that one minor point, the jacket is great. It fits me well, looks good and best of all I’m happy with the result.

I still cannot believe I’ve knit a garment in …. acrylic!

A friend found this pattern and asked if I’d be interested in knitting it along with her. Yes, this person is an enabler.

Well, twist my arm a little, I said.

The outcome was yarn and a pattern or two, or was it three. They will all find their way into Ravelry in due course. Meanwhile, this Jacket in Sirdar Yo-Yo is the project for this week.

This would have to be the most humongous ball of yarn I have ever knit with. A 400g ball – 877 metres (959 yards), will knit the jacket pattern shown. The yarn is described as "soft colour phasing-from one ball".

I’ve completed one sleeve in two days and begun the other tonight. I’m hoping to have it knitted by the end of next week (which will now put the jinx on it for sure!). If I allow for school holidays, I’m not too sure if this will be achievable.

It was a late in the season purchase and I said to this certain friend that if we did purchase this yarn and pattern, I would have to drop everything and knit the Jacket immediately to get some wear out of it, otherwise, it would not get knitted at all and join the many projects that have made their way into my knitting room, mind you, will all good intentions, but nevertheless, there they sit waiting for attention.

That being said, it’s an easy peasy pattern. The Sirdar Yo-Yo yarn is not too bad to knit with. Dropping a stitch with this poodle yarn is not as daunting as I had originally thought, quite easy to pick up. The yarn knitted in stst gives an almost felted effect and is fairly close to the pattern photo.

Deceitful eBay Sellers

Liar, liar, pants on fire …

Well it seems even “asking relevant questions” to a 100% Ebay seller does not make a difference to the outcome of a purchase.

My question : Hello xxxx Could you describe as close as possible the condition of this magazine. I am a collector and will purchase if the magazine is in near perfect condition. I understand the magazine in not new, but I have been burned in the past. Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

The response : Hello Janette, the book is in very good condition for a 'secondhand' book; internally I would say unread, the spine is not creased at all and it is clean and tightly bound, free from writing etc.The covers show minor imperfections but no tears. Hope this helps xxxx

In my opinion, an INK STAIN on the back cover would not be considered “very good condition” or “minor imperfections”.

Clearly the seller is unethical and to be avoided, but unfortunately I cannot bring myself to expose this deceitful seller here on my blog.

Oh how I wish there were a place to list these people simply to keep them honest.

I want my money back including postage and ‘she’ will not give it to me.

What are we supposed to do when the 100% rated eBay sellers are deceiving us? eBay will certainly do absolutely nothing, so not wasting my time there.

I will not leave ‘her’ feedback and I bet ‘she’ will not leave me feedback, although I deserve superduper feedback.

The school Holidays are drawing to a close. The Princess spent a night and a day with me. We went to the movies and saw Horton Hears a Who, consumed popcorn and lemonade, because I was told that is what you do when you go to the moves - you eat popcorn and drink lemonade!

We went to lunch afterward – where of where do these little people stuff all this food and drink!

The afternoon was spent reading books and watching favourite kids shows on Foxtel.

Who enjoyed themselves the most … I think I did!

I have one in particular I have been working on since January and now close to achieving it. I’ve been going to Weight Watchers and lost 8 kilos. My goal is 13 kilos before the end of the year.

Guilt

I fell behind on the ABC Along when my IP had problems and we were without our service for approximately 5 weeks.

Have been internetless since Monday, March 3rd.

My provider and the phone company are blaming each other!

Meanwhile, I have no access, apart from time to time when husband has his laptop available.

Support from both parties is unsatisfactory ... I hope this ends soon.
